Zoos and nature preserves with there open; more natural (or realistic) enclosures are great places to photography wildlife. With very little effort and expense, you can photograpy creatures that would have otherwise required extensive travel to find or perhaps even exist no where else in the world today. Mornings and evenings are the preferred times to visit and I would avoid weekends if possible just to minimize contact with large crowds. Many zoos offer their members special "behind the scenes" programs and outings and these can be great photographic opportunities.
